Current Happenings
The CCGH has been well received both locally and globally. CCGH has been honored to work alongside international partners such as the Ministry of Health in Ivory Coast and the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. Locally, the Center has cultivated robust partnerships with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as well as all local health systems and many community-based organizations.
These relationships provide the real-world experience BJU grads need to succeed and serve. They also demonstrate the university’s commitment to meeting community needs in its backyard and across the world.
Childhood Malnutrition and Mortality in Ghana
In May 2021, BJU students completed their inaugural trip to Ghana to begin a childhood nutrition study with Aiyinasi Independent Baptist Academy, in partnership with the University of Cape Coast. Now, after multiple trips fueling two years of research and interventions–and for the first time in six years– this school has not recorded a single child fatality.
Hope Christian Health Center in the Ivory Coast
CCGH, championed by Director Dr. Bernard Kadio, is leading the effort alongside local churches to build Hope Christian Health Center in Ivory Coast. Accelerated by 2020s generous Bible Conference offering, groundbreaking recently was held for the first phase of the outpatient clinic. (Your continued prayer and financial support for Hope Christian Health Center in Ivory Coast is greatly appreciated!)
Balance and Cognition Research
In Greenville, CCGH students and faculty have been conducting research on the physiology of aging in partnership with Senior Action Center to better understand risk factors that contribute to falls by those 60, and over as well as how speech-language abilities relate to cognitive health.
Barriers to Shelter Use by Homeless Senior Adult
In partnership with the Greenville Homeless Alliance and local shelters, CCGH students and faculty conducted qualitative studies to determine factors that impacted whether or not the elderly homeless used shelters. Their findings can now be used as evidence for policy changes that could better meet the needs of Greenville’s older adults facing homelessness.
